You can feel it — that first cheeky evening that gets dark a smidge earlier, the way your morning coffee suddenly wants to be a little warmer. Seasons don’t slam doors; they tiptoe. And I think that tiptoe deserves a proper send-off.

So today we’re doing my favourite low-effort, high-cozy ritual: the End-of-Summer List. Three columns, one cup of something nice, zero pressure to be profound. Think of it as helping your brain fold the laundry of the last few months so you’re not carrying wrinkled socks into autumn.

Why a seasonal list actually helps

Here’s the thing about transitions: your mind loves a clean edge. When we don’t mark the turn of a season, everything sort of blurs into one long, undated Tuesday. A quick reflective ritual gives your experiences a little bookend — a place to set them down. It’s not magic (okay, it’s a little magic), it’s just giving yourself the gift of noticing.

And noticing is the whole game. You can’t keep the good stuff on purpose if you never named what the good stuff was.

The setup (keep it gloriously simple)

You don’t need a fancy journal with gold-foil edges, though if you have one, this is its moment to shine. Grab any paper and divide it into three columns — or three phone notes, no judgement here.

Keep — what worked, what you want to carry forward.

Release — what you’re ready to set down and leave in August.

Look Forward To — what you’re gently walking toward.

Pour a drink, put on a song or two, and give yourself maybe fifteen minutes. This isn’t a term paper. It’s a chat with yourself.

Prompts for each column

Keep

These are your summer keepers — the habits, feelings, and little joys you’d smuggle into every season if you could.

What made me feel most like myself this summer?

Which small habit quietly improved my days? (The evening walk? The extra glass of water? Saying no to the third thing?)

Who did I love spending time with, and how can I keep that going?

What did my body enjoy — a stretch, a swim, a slow morning — that I’d like to keep?

Release

This column is a soft exhale, not a scolding. You’re not failing anything by letting it go — you’re making room.

What did I keep saying yes to that always left me drained?

Which worry turned out to be a lot smaller than it looked in June?

What story about myself am I tired of retelling?

What’s one thing I can stop carrying that was never really mine?

Look Forward To

Autumn is basically the universe handing you a fresh notebook. What do you want to write in it?

What cozy thing am I genuinely excited about? (Sweaters. Soup. Being smug about both.)

What’s one gentle goal for the next season — small enough that it’s fun, not scary?

How do I want to feel come November?

What’s one new thing I’m curious to try before the year winds down?

You’re not turning the page because summer failed you. You’re turning it because you’re ready to see what’s next.

The small closing action

Here’s where we seal it, because a list left open just floats around your head like a browser tab you forgot to close. Pick one item from each column and give it a tiny home in the real world:

From Keep: schedule it. Actually put your favourite habit into your calendar for next week so it survives the season change.

From Release: do one symbolic gesture. Delete the draft, unfollow the noise, or literally scribble the thing out and close the notebook with a satisfying little thwap.

From Look Forward To: take one baby step today. Order the tea. Text the friend. Buy the ridiculous pumpkin candle. Momentum loves a small start.

That’s it. Three choices, three actions, and suddenly your intentions have legs instead of just vibes.

Make it a returning ritual

The beauty of this list is that it’s reusable four times a year, forever. Tuck it somewhere you’ll find it — a photo on your phone, a note titled with the date — and when winter starts tiptoeing in, do it again. Over time you build a little museum of your own seasons, and let me tell you, reading last year’s list is weirdly moving. Past You was doing their best, and it shows.

If you’d like a gentle nudge to keep the momentum after your list is done, my free 7-Day Mind-Body Reset is a lovely companion for easing into a new season — small daily prompts and movements that pair perfectly with a fresh notebook.

So light the candle, grab the pen, and give summer the goodbye it deserves. It was good to us in its own sun-warmed, slightly-too-humid way. Now — onward to sweater weather and soup, my friend. You’ve got a beautiful blank page waiting.

A cozy end-of-summer journaling ritual with simple prompts to keep what worked, release what didn’t, and greet the next season.

[5

post-514","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-rituals-routines
["GET
